Every once in a while(though not too often), I write a stinging article criticizing Jehovah’s Witnesses. Some people, especially Jehovah’s Witnesses, don’t take this too well and complain that I am obsessed with them and should just leave them alone and focus on my fiction or other kinds of writing. ‘

Of course, I don’t really like writing stinging articles about the Witnesses. I would rather just keep to myself and mind my own business. Sometimes, I take the back seat and tell myself that I don’t care at all what they do or not do; and that God will deal with them in his own time and way. And that if he wills that any of them have their eyes open, he will without any intervention on my part.

In as much as people perceive me to be bitter and broken, I am not. I am happy about not having anything to do with them at all and try my best to leave them alone at all costs. I mean, who would revel in such kind of responses:

“ u r fool,y do u always talk abt witness sure..u left them fine, now move on with yo life u nincompoop...shame on u,am ucz bt every day readin abt Jwitness is so heart breaking..Fuseki”

“u r a lost sheep,maybe u were not given what u asked for.shame on you moron”

“You really enjoy talkng abt witnesses y cnt u 4 once jx gv it a break? Look you are a gud writer nd talking abt witnesses wnt tek u any were u cn bet on tht”

“I think that you have also judged the JWs. If you want to condemn them for believing that Jehovah is the Only True God and Jesus is his Son, then that's your right as a free moral being.

“Very few JWs will be interested in your ‘porn’. It's very clear that you are in search of self-justification! Do you feel insecure or something? Just answer yourself.

Whatever Jehovah will tell us, then we shall do to his glory. Finally, the Son will also subject himself(1 Cor 15:28).

Phil 2:9

‘For this reason God raised him to the highest place above and gave him the name that is greater than any OTHER name’(GNB) .

‘And for this God raised him high, and gave him the name which is above all OTHER names’(NJB)

Jesus doesn't not feel belittled when we pray to his Father through him.

Please use your page for better purposes”

Hence begs the question: why do I still write about Witnesses?

Here are the reasons why I will continue writing about Jehovah’s Witnesses whenever I feel the need to.

I understand them

I understand Jehovah’s Witnesses. I was one of them. I have even served in a position of responsibility, as a Ministerial servant, no less. Therefore, I understand what it takes to be a Witness and why Witnesses behave the way they do and what they hope to attain.

I was one of the serious ones. I used to spend a lot of time preaching, persuading people that we are the one true religion. I firmly believed that we had the truth and that all other religions are wrong. So, when I write about what Witnesses believe, I am writing from an informed perspective as one who knows what he is talking about.

Therefore, seeing that I understand what they believe and how mislead they are on the most important truths, I believe I am obliged to assist them to understand what they ought it. Sometimes, it takes one of them to assist them; or rather, one who used to be like them.

The Training I got as a Witness Compels me

Jehovah’s Witnesses teach people who came out of ‘false religions’ (other religions) that they need to reach out to their friends or family still in those religions and bring them into the organization of Jehovah’s Witness. They need to warn then and preach to them or else they will be blood guilty.

Naturally, after discovering that the organization of Jehovah’s Witnesses is poisoned, and then consequently leaving it, I feel compelled to warn my friends and family still in the organization.

Think about it. If you discover that the water source you have been using in your neighbourhood is poisoned, would you just quietly walk away or would you warn everyone still resident in that area? It is just the right thing to do.

I love sharing What I know

I have a natural desire to share what I know about Jesus. It is what used to drive me to preach even as a Witness.

Even today, I still share what I know and believe about Jesus; and of course, most of my experiences and my knowing Jesus are centred around my activities as a Jehovah’s Witness.

It was my desire to defend my religion which brought me to a more refined understanding of the scriptures and led to discover flaws in our dogma that I could not tolerate as a lover of truth.

Do to others What you Want to Them to Do to You

If I was still a Witness, and someone discovered something fundamentally wrong with my belief, I would rather they tell me about it so that I analyse the merit or demerits of their findings. I would consider it quite unloving for them to leave me in the dark.

I would rather know so that if I make a decision to stay or leave, that would be my informed decision.

I actually intended to leave quietly, without saying a word, but one of my friends told me these sobering words:

“Suppose you are right that we are wrong; wouldn’t it be the right and loving thing to do to warn me so that you serve my life if indeed you love me?”

Just because I left Jehovah’s Witnesses doesn’t mean I hate them; nor does it mean God hates them. I believe he is always trying to reach out to them through people like me and in various other ways; and that God knows who belong to him (even among the Witnesses, I believe, true Christians exist albeit suppressed and oppressed).

I do not endorse any hate speech towards the Witnesses and I believe in appealing to them in and with love. This is not necessarily easy to do as the Witnesses often respond in a defensive and dogmatic way.

The Witnesses have some wonderful teachings and not everything about them is black and evil. However, they are wrong about what matters the most to Christianity and therein lies the folly.

I certainly hope the Witness will be more open to meaningful debate and discussions concerning the Word of God which we are continuously learning and not write off all dissenting voices because not all such voices are wrong.

I will continue trying to assist people to know Jesus, and that includes Witnesses. With the Witnesses, I will be a little bit more personal and write from their perspective because I know what they believe. I will try not to belittle, disparage or insult them.

The world is a more liberal place now; and people are entitled to their beliefs or opinion so to try to intimidate people out of their beliefs or to intimidate them into maintaining a flawed belief is actually unlawful. But that doesn’t not mean we shall not criticize their belief if we determine that that belief is corrosive or fatal in the long or short term. In fact, we shall preach from the rooftops what we believe about Jesus Christ, and pray people listen before it is too late. And that includes the Jehovah’s Witnesses.
