I gave you my heart—
Ripped my chest open with a wire and cut it out
And presented it to you on a silver plate.
It was yours for the taking;
Your every wish I was ready to be fulfilling
And everything you needed I gave to keep you smiling.
For you I became a fool
I dug a grave in my back yard and buried my past for you;
So that all my attention was fixed on you
And I killed of all my friends one by one
So that all I desired was you alone
And I would lick your feet with my tongue
Yes, for you I became a stupid fool
And I learnt to hate myself and love you:
All my thoughts were for you
All my breath was for you
All my money was for you
And most importantly, my heart—it was for you
On a silver platter it fluttered just for you.

But Alas to all this you turned a blind eye
You took my heart and dragged it through the mire
And all you had for me and my love-filled heart was ire.
You locked your heart away in a safe
You took it back and refused to put it for me on a plate
Your body, disgusted by my touch turned to granite
No longer could I feel the warmth of your love
No longer could I your tender sweetness have
No longer could I your tender side move

And one day in a vile, evil rage
You drove a knife over my heart with the sharp edge
And it burst apart and ceased to be

Aghast, I turned my face away
Aghast, I turned my feet away
Aghast, I slowly walked away.

In want of a new heart I tried one and many things
I whispered sweet things into strange women’s ears
To see if they would remain as cold as your deaf ears
To see if they would turn to granite
To see if they would seek my face to smite
To see if they would spit on me with spite

But they grew warm on me
And their hearts they put on a silver plate
And they poured themselves out to me

But alas, I had no heart to give them
Because you had destroyed my heart for them
And so I could not at all be with them

So—

Aghast, I turned my face away
Aghast, I turned my feet away
Aghast, I slowly walked away.

For that is the fate of a heartless man.
